🎼 Before 1940 – The Roots of Electronic Music
🎶 Main events:
1897 – Telharmonium, created by Thaddeus Cahill, is the first electromechanical instrument capable of generating musical sounds.
1920 – Theremin, by Léon Theremin, is the first electronic instrument controlled by gestures, without physical touch.
1928 – Ondes Martenot, French instrument used by composers such as Olivier Messiaen.
1935 – Beginning of magnetic tape recordings in Germany.
🎧 Context:
These instruments were primarily used in classical and experimental music concerts. The idea of manipulating sounds with electricity was more closely tied to the avant-garde than to popular culture.
🎛️ 1940–1950 – Concrete and Electroacoustic Music
🎶 Main events:
1948 – Pierre Schaeffer develops concrete music, creating works from recorded sounds (such as motors, footsteps and voices).
1951 – Karlheinz Stockhausen begins composing at the Cologne Studio, developing purely electronic music.
1957 – Release of the RCA Mark II, the first fully programmable synthesizer (Columbia-Princeton).

Academic composers experimented with reel-to-reel tape recorders, tone generators, and the physical manipulation of magnetic tape. There was no popular electronic culture yet—it was a scientific and artistic field.
🎹 1960–1969 – The Beginning of Synthesizers and Psychedelic Rock
🎶 Main events:
1964 – Robert Moog introduces the first Moog modular synthesizer.
1967 – Morton Subotnick releases Silver Apples of the Moon.
1968 – Wendy Carlos releases Switched-On Bach, an album featuring classical music played on the Moog — a worldwide success.
1969 – Beatles use synthesizers on Abbey Road.
🎧 Context:
Electronic sound begins to enter pop culture and psychedelic rock. Avant-garde artists and electronic engineers explore new sonic possibilities with equipment that is still very expensive and unreliable.
🕺 1970–1979 – The Krautrock, Disco, and Pure Electronic Revolution
🎶 Main events:
1970 – Kraftwerk starts the German Krautrock scene, using synthesizers and drum machines.
1977 – Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer release I Feel Love, a landmark in electronic disco.
1978 – The Prophet-5, the first polyphonic analog synth with memory, appears.
1979 – Launch of the Roland CR-78, predecessor of the classic drum machines.

Dance floor electronics emerges. Electronic music ceases to be experimental and begins to dominate dance floors and radio stations. The use of sequencers and drum machines creates precise rhythmic patterns that become the foundation for techno and house.
⚡ 1980–1989 – MIDI, Electro, House and Techno
🎶 Main events:
1982 – MIDI launched, allowing devices to communicate with each other.
1983 – The Yamaha DX7, the first successful digital synthesizer, appears.
1983 – Afrika Bambaataa releases Planet Rock, fusing Kraftwerk with hip hop.
1985–1987 – Chicago House (Frankie Knuckles) and Detroit Techno (Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson) are born.
1988 – Second Summer of Love in the UK: height of Acid House and raves.

🔊 1990–1999 – The Era of Clubs, Raves, and Superstars

Early 90s – Popularization of Trance, European Techno, Drum and Bass, Jungle and Breakbeat.
1992 – The Prodigy and Aphex Twin reinvent electronica in the UK.
1995 – Daft Punk emerges with French House.
1997 – Homework, Daft Punk's debut album, changes the game.
1999 – Moby releases Play, which brings electronics to pop and advertising.

2010–2013 – EDM peak: Avicii, Calvin Harris, Skrillex, Deadmau5.
2015 – Revaluation of analog and modular synthesizers.
2016–2019 – Growth of the underground Techno scene, Lo-Fi House and online microgenres.

Electronic music hits the mainstream with full force. Festivals like Tomorrowland, EDC, and Ultra become global mega-events. At the same time, there's a return to a raw, analog aesthetic among independent artists.
🌐 2020–Present – Hyperconnectivity, AI, and Decentralization
🎶 Main events:
2020 – Pandemic accelerates the use of live streams, online sets and performances via Zoom.
2022 – Explosion of modular music (Eurorack), DAWless jams and DIY scenes.
2023–2025 – Advances in music AI, audio integration with NFTs, Web3, and augmented reality.
🎧 Context:
Electronic music is becoming even more global and diverse. Hybrid genres emerge every day. Platforms like Bandcamp and TikTok are boosting independent artists. The fusion of man and machine is more prevalent than ever.
